12 Days of Advent: Creating with Presence, Not Pressure
Advent invites us to slow down.
In a season that often feels rushed, full, and loud, this year’s 12 Days of Advent became something quieter and more meaningful. Over the course of twelve creative sessions, we gathered to make tags and ornaments, small projects by design, each one an invitation to pause, reflect, and create with intention.
This was not about perfection.
It was about presence.
Why Tags and Ornaments
Tags and ornaments are humble projects, but they carry a lot of heart.
They are small enough to feel manageable and meaningful enough to matter. A tag can become a keepsake. An ornament can hold a memory. Together, they create space for reflection without requiring hours at the craft table.
Choosing these projects for Advent was intentional. They allow creativity to fit into real life, not compete with it.
Creating Through Real Life Rhythm
This Advent season unfolded just like life does.
Some days were calm and focused.
Some days required doubling up.
Some days didn’t go as planned.
And that was okay.
This series wasn’t about showing up perfectly every single day. It was about returning to the table when possible, picking up where we left off, and giving ourselves grace along the way.
That, too, is part of the lesson.
About the Advent Series
Across these twelve sessions, we explored tags and ornaments using what we already had, adapting ideas, and letting creativity meet us where we were.
You can revisit the full Advent series here at your own pace:
These videos are meant to be returned to, not rushed through. Advent doesn’t expire.
Gentle Lessons from Twelve Days of Making
There were many quiet lessons woven through this series.
Creating something small can be just as meaningful as a larger project.
Consistency doesn’t have to look perfect to be powerful.
Missing a day doesn’t undo the intention behind the season.
Most importantly, creativity can be a form of devotion, a way to mark time, honor the present, and gently reflect on what matters most.
How to Use This Series Moving Forward
You don’t have to recreate these projects exactly.
You might:
- make one tag a week
- create ornaments after the holidays
- adapt the ideas for gifts, journaling, or memory keeping
- revisit a favorite day when you need a creative reset
Advent-style making is about rhythm, not rules.
A Season to Carry With You
As this 12 Days of Advent series comes to a close, my hope is that it leaves you feeling encouraged rather than behind, inspired rather than pressured.
Creativity doesn’t need a perfect calendar.
It needs permission, presence, and a willing heart.
Thank you for spending this season creating alongside me.
With gratitude,
Martha
