Design Your Create Layout: Borders, Mats, and Meaningful Layers

With just two days to go before Create 2025, this live felt like a deep breath.

On November 12, we gathered at home to focus on something grounding and essential, designing our Jasmine-inspired scrapbook layouts with intention. This wasn’t about rushing. It wasn’t about finishing. It was about preparing thoughtfully so that when Create officially began, we could show up calm, confident, and ready to enjoy the experience.

Why This Moment Matters

Create can feel exciting, inspiring, and sometimes overwhelming, especially when working with a collection as stunning as Jasmine.

This live was about slowing the process down.

By focusing on borders, photo mats, and paper layers ahead of time, we gave ourselves permission to think, plan, and visualize without pressure. Preparation like this doesn’t limit creativity, it supports it.

When the foundation is ready, creativity flows more freely.

About the Live

This session was entirely at home, just like Create itself, with everyone working from their own craft spaces and supplies.

During the live, we walked through how to:

  • Build strong layout foundations
  • Design borders that frame, not overwhelm
  • Create photo mats that enhance your pictures
  • Layer paper in a way that feels intentional and elegant

This was about design confidence, not perfection.

Designing with Jasmine (or Inspired Alternatives)

Jasmine is rich, dramatic, and layered by nature. Its beauty invites depth, but it can also feel intimidating to cut into.

This live encouraged you to either use Jasmine or substitute with papers that carry similar qualities, deep jewel tones, Moroccan-inspired patterns, rich textures, and gold accents.

The goal was never to copy a layout exactly, but to understand why the layers work together so you can apply that knowledge to any collection you love.

Preparation Creates Peace

There is something incredibly calming about entering Create with decisions already made.

Knowing where your photos will go.
Having your mats cut.
Understanding your border plan.

This kind of preparation allows you to fully enjoy the live classes, the inspiration, and the community without feeling rushed or behind.

This live was about setting yourself up for joy.

Two Days Until Create

As Create 2025 approached, this moment felt like a gentle invitation to trust yourself.

You don’t need to do everything.
You don’t need to rush.
You don’t need to compare your work to anyone else’s.

You only need to arrive with intention and openness.

This blog captures that feeling, the quiet confidence that comes from thoughtful preparation.

Ready, Not Rushed

If you joined this live or watched the replay, thank you for taking time to prepare with care.

Designing ahead of time is not about control, it’s about creating space to enjoy the experience fully.

I cannot wait to create alongside you.

With gratitude,
Martha
